Comparing Busways with Rail Transit

These tables show the actual peak hour, peak direction, passengers per hour carried by various forms or mass transit. Note from the first table that the New Jersey, Route 495 busway carries 30,000 people per hour and Washington DC's Shirley Highway carries 21,800 per hour.

Compare that with other U.S. heavy rail where only New York's 8th Avenue line carries more people per hour. Light rail does not even come close to that of busways.
