Offering cost-effective ways to reduce traffic congestion in Honolulu

All you need to know about the Mayor’s rail plan

First, it is not a "done deal"; it will be at least a year and a half before the Council can vote on spending serious money for it — if we want federal funds.

Second, whether you believe the City or us, rail will cost $billions and $billions and $billions.

Third, the City’s projections show that traffic congestion in the future with rail will be far worse than it is today. Check it out in the City's Alternatives Analysis Table 3.12

Instead of rail, consider our plan: Imagine an elevated tollway from the H1/H2 merge to Pier 16 — buses and vanpools go free and autos pay a toll. The feds will pay half the cost and tolls will pay the other half. Tolls are voluntary; taxes are not. And in town, we have plans for traffic light upgrades and underpasses.

Those who don’t use the tollway will experience greatly reduced traffic congestion on H-1 but pay no additional taxes or tolls, yet have the security of knowing they can always hop on the tollway if late for an appointment, a job interview or pick up a child from daycare.
